5. Castelo to Portela. Iconic views - North and South

Pick up and drop off at your accommodation or the ferry.

After the initial climb of Pico Castelo, this walk becomes generally less strenuous. It features both wooded trails, stone steps, field walks and even a bit of a scramble. There are a few drop-offs but as ever the views really make up for them. It is a quiet walk - rarely do we see any other walkers in the latter stages - even though we are close to the Vila.
